Worldwide, 175,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year. In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease, but only 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is directed to childhood cancer research.
St. Baldrick’s started as a challenge between businessmen back in 2000 and has grown to over 1,300 events in 2013, raising millions for childhood cancer research. Many of those who know me know that I’m active in our Las Vegas Valley Triathlon community, when I found out that one of my longtime training partners was directly affected by childhood cancer and had lost a child, I knew this was a charity with which I should be involved. And of course – go big or go home, so I decided to join a team and shave my head. As a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), who has a team that shaves every year, I knew I had to join them – team Bald by Design. Our team had 33 teammates in both Las Vegas and Reno, and collectively have raised over $85,000 this year – at last count, weeks after the event, we are now at $97,389! This is a great testament to our team but also to the community we had supporting us. Coda Group was glad to be a supporter of St. Baldrick’s and shaving my head was the least I could do to support those who deal with childhood cancer.
We would like to thank all of those who supported St. Baldrick’s this year including clients, friends and family – your donation is making a difference in funding lifesaving research to address the many types of childhood cancer with 77.4% of the money raised going directly into the research programming.
